Render of the high-wing UAV in a plywood finish, with a twin-boom tail and a nose propeller.

Teknofest Fixed-Wing UAV

A fixed-wing uncrewed aircraft (UAV) designed for Teknofest in Turkey. Its modular frame uses plywood, balsa and 3D-printed parts for easier repairs. A servo mechanism releases the payload.

Designed to fly, built to be repaired

We led the UAV design and worked with the team’s electronics engineers. Wing profile, wing area and the aircraft’s proportions came from experience and UAV design handbooks, weighed against aerodynamics, structural strength, manufacture and assembly.

The airframe is modular, so a part damaged in a crash can be swapped instead of rebuilding the plane.

Plywood, balsa and prints

The airframe combines plywood, balsa and 3D-printed parts. We prepared the print files and tuned the print settings for reliable parts and shorter print times.

Payload drop

A servo-powered mechanism in the fuselage releases the payload in flight.

A vertical take-off version

One render explores a hybrid version, with four lift rotors added for vertical take-off.
